We were doubly confused when we saw that the product in question is a jersey; but sure enough, there it is: Shimano's Mirror Cool Jersey, which features fibers with an apparently flexible ceramic coating in its eponymous Mirror Cool fabric. Given the above-mentioned tendency of substance over style, we're more than willing to entertain Shimano's claims that the jersey's ceramic elements reflect the sun's rays, helping cool a cyclist's body by reducing the impact of the main external heat source. The fact that Mirror Cool is similar to the proven ColdBlack treatment used by Shimano's sister company, Pearl Izumi, also recommends it. The Mirror Cool Jersey's got a second, less tech-nerdy feature for keeping the heat down in its Heat Ventilation System. This involves panels of mesh along the jersey's spine that Shimano suggests harnesses the cooling airflow traveling across your shoulders and helmet to your back. The jersey is finished with the usual, tech-nerdy features you'd expect. The three standard pockets are angled at the sides with an expanded center pocket, and a fourth, zippered pocket provides a sweat-proof storage option. Reflective elements help keep you visible in low-light conditions, UPF 50 helps on rides when low-light doesn't apply, and a hit of silicone at the rear hem keeps the jersey riding in place.
